Rent your textbooks and save!

What is a Rental Textbook?
  • A rental textbook is a lower priced textbook option that allows you to save money upfront. Pay a reduced fee to use the book for the semester and return it by the rental return deadline.
    • How Do I Rent a Textbook?
  • In-Store:
      o Bring ICC student ID
      o Print out class schedule
      o Tell bookstore staff which books you want to rent, if available (note: not all books are available to rent)
      o Bookstore staff will pull your preference of books and go over them with you
      o Take books and rest of your items to front checkout to pay
      o Cashier will go over rental agreement and other bookstore policies with you

  • Online:
      o Click on the Textbook link on the menu
      o Click Buy Textbooks
      o Select the appropriate term, department, course number, and section number
      o Click on the plus sign next to New Rental or Used Rental and click the Purchase button
      o Continue browsing for other textbooks/items as needed
      o Click on the View Cart link to check out
      o Check mark the box next to each rental to read the rental agreement and click the Accept button if you agree to adhere to the terms and conditions listed (Note: You will have to do this for each rental textbook in your cart.)
      o Click on the Checkout button
    • If you are a returning customer, sign into your account.
    • If you are a new customer, create a bookstore account, using your ICC email address.
      o Once signed in, read and agree to adhere to the terms and conditions of Textbook Agreement
      o Input desired shipping method/shipping info
      o Input ICC student ID number, including ICC and the seven-digit number
      o Select desired payment method and input payment information/billing address
      o Review and place your order
    • How do I know what textbooks are available to rent?
  • Rental textbooks will be listed on the bookstore website under your respective class/section with a New Rental price or Used Rental price.
  • If there is not a New Rental or Used Rental price listed, the textbook is not available to rent.
    • What rules do I need to follow when renting?
  • Must be an ICC student (only the student can rent. someone else cannot rent a book for a student)
  • Must sign a rental agreement
  • Must keep the book in resalable condition
      o No moisture damage (water, soda, coffee, stains etc.)
      o Minimal writing/highlighting
      o No torn pages
  • Must report any prior damage to rental book within 1 week of renting, otherwise you will be held responsible for the full retail price of the book if returned damaged
  • Must return book by rental return deadline
    • What if I rent a textbook and then decide I want to keep it?
  • You can pay to keep your book (Initial amount paid to rent the textbook will be deducted from the purchase price of the textbook)
  • Must be done prior to rental return deadline
  • Must be done at the Customer Service Desk at the East Peoria Bookstore
    • Where do I return my rental textbook?
  • In person:
      o During the semester:
    • East Peoria Campus Bookstore - Customer Service Desk
      o During buyback:
    • Buyback Hours: East Peoria Campus Bookstore - Buyback/Rental Return Window in Cafeteria
    • After Store Hours: East Peoria Campus Bookstore- Rental Return Bins across from bookstore
  • Mail/Ship (at your expense):

    • What happens if I don't return my rental textbook?
  • You will be charged the full retail price of a new textbook
  • Your ICC student records will be put on hold
      o Restrict you from registering for classes until payment is made
      o Restrict your transcripts from being released until payment is made
    • What happens if my rental textbook becomes lost, stolen, or damaged while in my possession?
  • You can pay for the lost/stolen/damaged book before the rental return deadline:
      o Initial amount paid to rent the textbook will be deducted from the purchase price of the textbook
      o Must be done prior to rental return deadline
      o Must be done at East Peoria Bookstore - Customer Service Desk
  • If you choose not to pay for the lost/stolen/damaged book:
      o You will be charged the full retail price of a new textbook
      o Your ICC student records will be put on hold
    • Restrict you from registering for classes until payment is made
    • Restrict your transcripts from being released until payment is made
